April 14, 2020

Whether you’re a big Downton Abbey fan or you just love vintage style, there is plenty of inspiration out there for your Edwardian themed wedding. Here at No.4 Hamilton Place in Mayfair, our wedding team has plenty of experience when it comes to planning a wedding with a period theme. From the outfits and flowers to the accessories and special touches, read on and be inspired by our favourite real-life Edwardian weddings and fabulous expert advice.

The venue

No.4 Hamilton Place was built in 1907 and still retains lots of beautiful, original, period features – it’s the perfect backdrop if you’re looking to add an element of authenticity to your vintage wedding. So much so that some of the first series of Downton Abbey was filmed here!

As you and your guests arrive, you will be welcomed into our stunning reception area and a beautiful, sweeping staircase which leads up to our most popular wedding space – the Argyll Room. The room has a stunning ceiling and plenty of intricate details for your guests to discover throughout the day. Take a look at our picture gallery to see it in all its glory. The large roof terrace which adjoins the room provides you with a unique outdoor space and a fantastic setting for a drinks reception.

The flowers

Wedding flowers in the Edwardian era reflected the UK’s natural flora, typically mirroring the seasonal blooms that could be found in an English country garden at the time of the celebrations. Popular choices included daffodils and tulips, lilacs, peonies and clematis so you have plenty of gorgeous blooms to work with.

This blog about Edwardian wedding flowers is a great starting point to get you inspired and we can put you in touch with some of our wonderful florists who know the venue inside and out and can help you bring your ideas to life.

The food and drink

No.4 Hamilton Place is partnered with one of London’s leading caterers, Blue Strawberry, who are renowned for their innovative events with creative and delicious food. Our in-house team of chefs love the challenge of creating a bespoke menu to fit your chosen theme and will work closely with you throughout – as well as hosting you for a complimentary tasting to help you narrow down your menu choices.

The extras

We love this blog from chicvintagebrides.com which shows you how the use of feathers, mirrors, glass and parasols can create a really glamorous look. Plus, it has the all-important dress inspiration, showcasing gowns with intricate lace and beading.

For more dress ideas, this fabulous picture gallery looks at the best outfits from Downton Abbey, showing you how Edwardian brides would have dressed for their big day.

We also found this truly beautiful wedding on lovemydress.net – you can see how to make an outdoor space like our roof terrace tie in with your theme, with simple floral designs and feathers. There are some lovely ideas for the added extras like the menus, the table plan and place names too.
