Sustainability is a hot topic in the industry right now and it’s only going to get more important as time goes on. That’s why the Venue Team members at No.4 Hamilton Place have put their heads together to come up with a list of ways in which together, we can make yours a green summer party at our exclusive, Mayfair town house, so we can all do our bit for the environment.
Paper-free (apart from the straws!)
By ditching any paper correspondence between the venue, client and guest, we can go a long way towards saving some trees. The one concession? Paper straws – as we all know, single use plastic is a really big problem for the oceans and landfill.
Encourage Use of Public Transport
We’re a really well-connected venue with Hyde Park Corner and Green Park tube stations just a few minutes’ walk away, so make sure you let your guests know that there’s no reason to get in a cab. You can use TFL’s journey planner to help you plan your trip.
Recycle, Recycle, Recycle
We make sure all cardboard, glass and plastic are recycled. If you’re not booking at No.4 Hamilton Place, make sure you speak to your venue about their recycling policy. Even if you can’t immediately influence their practices, asking the questions may go some way towards encouraging them to address the issues.
Conscious Catering
Our fabulous, in-house caterer, Blue Strawberry, has made a whole host of commitments to ensure they minimise their impact on the environment. For example, they only buy CFC-free equipment and make every effort to ensure they source their seasonal ingredients from local suppliers to keep their food miles to a minimum. They also only use farmers who adhere to the same high ethical and sustainability standards as they do and request minimal packaging from all suppliers.
Potted Foliage
Our Roof Terrace has some beautiful plants but if you wanted to add some flora into the adjoining Argyll Room (which comes with all summer party bookings), why not think about hiring some potted plants, rather than cut flowers? You could even use some smaller items (maybe succulents) on the poseur tables and give them away as party favours.
Check your Numbers
You obviously don’t want to leave any guests hungry, but over-catering ‘just to be sure’ is bad for your budget as well as the planet. Double check your numbers a week before the event so you can be as accurate as possible. Keep a track of how many no shows you have so you can use this information in planning future events.
Ditch the Drinks Containers
Serving guests individual drinks in either plastic or glass bottles is simply unnecessary. Pitchers of juice, water and other soft drinks will save a huge amount of waste in terms of packaging and leftovers and topping up glasses will avoid people using more than one glass!
Graphics & AV
We have all the AV facilities you could possibly need to display whatever branding or materials you want around your event space, so there’s no need to print anything out. Our largest room, the Bill Boeing Suite for example, is kitted out with state-of-the-art projectors and screens and has its own technician so you can get creative with minimal impact to the planet and then you can head up to the Argyll Room and Terrace for summer fun.
The Little Things
As well as all of the above, there are lots of small ways in which you can help make yours a green summer party. If you’re using plastic name badge holders, collect them up and re-use them for your next event. Apart from your welcome drinks, don’t pre-pour beverages. As well as it saving on waste, it’s a much better guest experience to have your drink poured specially for you at the bar.
